Some olives our donkey cart driver picked off a tree as we passed. Olives and dates are specialties in Siwa.
On Saturday morning, we went to the Mountain of the Dead or Gebel al-Mawta, whose tombs were used as bomb shelters during WWII.
By all appearances, donkey carts seemed to be the main mode of transportation in Siwa. While in Siwa, donkey carts were our sole source of transportation.
After an 8 hour drive starting at 2am on Friday morning, we arrived in Siwa on Friday afternoon and took a walk into town, and a quick tour of Shali or old Siwa that night.
